Common questions.

Who should become a verified merchant?

Any local business owner or licensed freelancer who wants to represent their business on EchoPulse. This includes storefronts, service-area businesses, contractors, realtors, tutors, personal trainers, and other independent professionals. You must be at least 18 and have the legal authority to act on behalf of the business.
What happens after I submit my application?

Your account shows an “Under Review” indicator visible only to you. Our team manually reviews every application. Founding Merchants (Phase 1) can expect a decision within 7 business days. If approved, you’ll be notified by email and in-app. If rejected, we’ll tell you why so you can address the issue and reapply after a 30-day cooldown.
What if my business has multiple locations?

Each verified merchant account represents one business. If you have multiple locations, you’ll need a separate EchoPulse account for each one, each verified independently. Multi-location management tools may be introduced in a future phase.
Can I delete negative reviews from my profile?

No. EchoPulse does not remove, suppress, or alter reviews in exchange for payment, advertising, or merchant status. You can respond publicly to any post that tags your business, but you cannot edit or delete content created by other users. This is a core part of our trust model.
What if someone falsely reports my business as closed?

If your business is reported as closed, we’ll notify you and give you 14 days to provide proof that your business is still operating (business license, utility bill, or storefront photo). If you respond with valid proof, the reports are dismissed and your status is preserved. We also monitor for bad-faith reporting and may rate-limit reporters who abuse the system.
What happens if I sell my business?

Verified merchant status is tied to your personal EchoPulse account, not the business entity. If you sell the business, the new owner must create their own account and apply for verification. Your Founding Merchant benefit (if applicable) does not transfer to the new owner.
Can I send messages to my customers through EchoPulse?

No. Verified merchants cannot send private messages or create group chats, and users cannot DM merchants. All merchant-user communication happens publicly through your responses to tagged posts. This is by design to protect both merchants and users from off-platform abuse.
What documents count as “proof of business affiliation”?

We accept: business license or permit, tax filing showing the business name, utility bill in the business name and address, articles of incorporation, or a relevant professional certification (contractor license, realtor license, etc.). For freelancers, a professional certification or licensing document works. Documents must be current and legible. For details on how we handle your verification documents, see our Privacy Policy, Section 6.
Why can’t merchants send private messages?

Keeping all merchant–user communication public protects both sides. Users can’t be pressured privately to change reviews, and merchants can’t be targeted with off-platform harassment. Every response you post is visible to the community, which keeps conversations honest and accountable.
How often do I need to re-verify?

Verified merchants undergo annual re-verification to confirm the business is still active and the account holder is still authorized to represent it. We’ll notify you in advance by email and in-app. The process is lighter than the initial application — typically just confirming your details are still current.
What if my business name, address, or ownership changes?

You’re required to notify EchoPulse within 30 days of any material change to your business — including name changes, relocations, or ownership transfers. We may ask for updated documentation. If the change involves a new owner, the new owner must create their own account and apply for verification independently.
